چکیده

We present a model for microstructure in pulsar radio emission. We propose that micropulses result from the alteration of the radio wave generation region by nearly transverse drift waves propagating across the pulsar magnetic field and encircling the bundle of the open magnetic field lines. It is demonstrated that such waves can modify significantly curvature of these dipolar field lines. This in turn affects strongly fulfillment of the resonance conditions necessary for the excitation of radio waves. The timescale of micropulses is therefore determined by the wavelength of drift waves. Main features of the microstructure are naturally explained in the frame of this model.

Radio pulsar microstructure at 1 . 41 and 4 . 85 GHz

We report on observations of microstructure at 4.85 and 1.41 GHz of pulsars strong enough for the observation of single pulses with time resolution between 7 µs and 160 µs. All five pulsars observed at 4.85 GHz show microstructure in a large fraction of their pulses. We confirm that microstructure seems to be a common property of the pulsar emission mechanism and not only an additional feature ...

Upper limits on the pulsed radio emission from the Geminga pulsar at 35 & 327 MHz

We report here our observations at 35 MHz and 327 MHz made in the direction of the γ–Ray pulsar Geminga. Based on the observed absence of any significant pulsed emission from this source above our detection thresholds at the two frequencies, we obtain useful upper-limits for the average flux to be 75–100 mJy at 35 MHz, and 0.2–0.3 mJy at 327 MHz. We discuss a few possible reasons for the “radio...

On the Nature of Part Time Radio Pulsars

The recent discovery of rotating radio transients and the quasi-periodicity of pulsar activity in the radio pulsar PSR B1931+24 has challenged the conventional theory of radio pulsar emission. Here we suggest that these phenomena could be due to the interaction between the neutron star magnetosphere and the surrounding debris disk. The pattern of pulsar emission depends on whether the disk can ...

On the Nature of Pulsar Radio Emission

A theory of pulsar radio emission generation, in which the observed waves are produced directly by maser-type plasma instabilities operating at the anomalous cyclotron-Cherenkov resonance ω − k‖v‖ + ωB/ γres = 0 and the Cherenkov-drift resonance ω − k‖v‖ − k⊥ud = 0, is capable of explaining the main observational characteristics of pulsar radio emission. The instabilities are due to the interac...

Chandra X-ray Imaging Spectroscopy of the Young Supernova Remnant Kesteven 75

We present a spatially resolved spectroscopic analysis of the young Galactic supernova remnant Kes 75 (SNR G29.7-0.3) using the Chandra X-ray Observatory. Kes 75 is one of an increasing number of examples of a shell-type remnant with a central pulsar powering an extended radio/X-ray core. We are able to pinpoint the location of the recently discovered pulsar, PSR J1846−0258, and confirm that X-...
